Athena the Ewe and Bacchus the Alpaca!

The Lazy Perry Ranch is a very small operation. I have one alpaca named Bacchus (the Roman god of wine and intoxication) and two angora rabbits named Tortoise and Chocolate. These are my fiber animals. We have laying hens too but they don't contribute to the making of yarn! Last week I took on a new fiber animal. We have named her Athena (Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Learning, the Arts, Sciences, Medicine, Dyeing, Trade). Athena is a Dorset ewe. She hasn't been cared for much in the last several years and needs a good shearing right now. I am going to try to get to that this weekend. My alpaca Bacchus is a sort of rescue animal as well. He had never been sheared at 6 years of age when I got him. He has buck teeth too but I love him just the same. Hopefully I will be spinning their yarn for my shop soon. Right now I am mostly using rovings I buy to spin for sell. Preparing my fiber is too time consuming to sell. I keep that for myself:) I plan on sending out fiber to be processed in the Fall to use for my shop!

That picture of the moth is awesome! I thought only butterflies got so eye-poppingly technicolor.

Athena and Bacchus are gorgeous! Okay, color me envious, and not nearly as pretty a shade as the Desert Juniper [G]. It's a good thing that the poor beleagured spouse is working overtime, because I can feel a space for the Juniper and the Victory shades opening up somewhere in Stash Mountain. Come to think of it, I knew there was a reason (beyond altruism) that I was doing all of that gift and charity knitting!

Athena and Bacchus really look like neat animals, and I bet they produce lovely fibers. Your area is beautiful, no wonder you are inspired to make such gorgeous yarns.

Hey Collette! What a beautiful start to what I'm sure will be a fun & informative blog page. I love the background colors, they coordinate so well with Bacchus and Athena. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your adventures in fiber arts. You teach so well and I have learned so much from you. Your colorways are the best and most original I have seen, especially the "Alabama Series" ;o)

What lovely beasties! Going for a rescue animal is really the way to go. I have been trying to goad my hubby into letting me convert one of our sheds into a barn and getting an alpaca for a while now. That way I could use our own fibers in my felting, and he could "mow the lawn"...but no such luck.

Hi - just traveled to your blog via another, and saw your animals. Yes I realize this post is um .. old... but Athena and Bacchus are adorable.
We have a mustang that was a rescue, I adore her. And a bunch of other animals on our little teeny tiny ranch. Stop by my blog sometime! Your yarn looks lucious!!!
